About the Game

BLAST! is a small HTML5 space shooter I made as a portfolio project.
You control a tiny ship in an endless starfield, dodging asteroids and enemy fire while upgrading your weapons and shield.

It’s meant to feel like a little arcade cabinet: simple controls, readable patterns, a couple of bosses, and a persistent high score you can chase.

Runs in the browser (desktop ) – no download needed.

Core Features

  • Endless mode
    Survive as long as you can while difficulty slowly ramps up.

  • Two bosses
    Each boss has shield phases and evolving bullet patterns as their health goes down.

  • Upgrades & coins

    • Triple Shot & Six Shot (right click / tap)

    • Shield with upgradeable hit points (Q key)

    • Coins to unlock and upgrade these during a run.

  • Hearts & drops

    • Asteroids and enemies can drop hearts.

    • Bosses drop a shower of coins when defeated (and more in future updates).

  • Achievements
    In-game achievements for:

    • Beating the first boss

    • Beating the second boss

    • Reaching a certain score

    • Collecting lots of coins

    • Unlocking all upgrades, etc.

  • Retro UI & vibe
    Pixel font, simple HUD, and a neon-ish soundtrack in the background.

Controls

Keyboard & mouse

  • Move: WASD or Arrow keys

  • Normal Shot: Left mouse / Space

  • Special Shot: Right mouse (spends coins to unlock/upgrade Triple & Six Shot)

  • Shield: Q – activate / refresh your shield (cooldown applies)

Dev Notes / Planned Updates

This is a small portfolio project, but I still plan to update it a bit:

  • New enemy type for endless mode
    I want to add an extra enemy that changes how you move, not just “more bullets”.

  • New mini-boss
    A smaller, mid-run boss that appears between the main bosses, with a simple pattern and less HP, so you get more “peaks” during a run.

  • More balance tweaks
    I’m still tuning:

    • Boss difficulty (especially the second boss)

    • Shield cooldown and heart drops

    • Coin economy for upgrades
